O God the Father:
Through Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, I thank You for these Your gifts:
By Your Spirit, make this prayer the disposition of my heart:
You’ve brought me out of idleness and given me a job. Through this job, You’ve also given me interaction with peers who trust and love You supremely.
And You’ve also shown me an eternal job. A career [1] I can make my whole life. Work I can embrace as my identity. A labor whose joy I never have to fear ending, for death will not end it. That job is being a Christian, a doer of Your will (Matthew 7:21-23). Though no work of mine saves me, You saved me to fulfill this calling (Ephesians 2:8-10).
O God, be glorified for these good things You did for me, now and forever! And may this thankfulness drive me to trust and love You, which faith and affection are Your due, also now and forever!
[1] The idea of doing God’s will being a career is inspired by a work of a late preacher named Bob Jennings, a link to which work I’ll provide here: https://illbehonest.com/your-lifes-ambition-bob-jennings
