"Be the change you want to see in the world!" is a popular challenge. And understandably so, because, in a sinful world that is Divinely cursed for its transgressions, sin and its consequences bring about so many evil facts. With all the sorrow that floods this world, who wouldn't want to change many aspects of this world? Yet, this challenge, when it is divorced from the context of a true worldview, is inadequate. Indeed, it can even be problematic. Because every ideological community on the planet has its own opinion about whether a thing is a problem or not, diagnosis of a problem, solution to a problem, moral code, etc. And all these belief systems fundamentally and essentially contradict each other. So, to just tell people "Be the change you want to see in the world!" is to prescribe a lazy and superficial cure to the world's ills.
But, as with all questions, the Lord Jesus Christ is the Answer! He is the Solution to this philosophical conundrum! Because He is the Truth (John 14:6), and He, as the second Person of the Triune God of the Bible, proves Himself, the Father, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19) to be the one, sole true God by passing the high and lofty tests God sets up for Himself in His Word (including, but not limited to, Scripture's fulfilled prophecies). So, we have a solution from Truth Himself on this issue! For the Christian, the phrase means "Be the godly change you want to see in the world!" Though God has decreed for all problems to be solved only after Christ's return and final judgment, in which He will remake this wicked and harmful world into a righteous and perfect one, He graciously grants the Christian opportunities to rectify this world's wrongs and thus give the world a taste of His love. A Christian finds a problem (which is objectively and actually a problem, according to Biblical standards), figures out how, within the boundaries of God's moral rules, he may solve those problems, and then, by faith and prayer toward God, acts to make that solution a reality.
So, what about you, Christian? What problems do you see? How does Scripture say or indicate they can be fixed? Be the godly change you want to see in the world!
