God is Love

As everyone knows, yesterday was Valentine's Day. It's equally obvious to say that Valentine's Day is a holiday centered on love (often romantic love in particular). But, of course, at this blog, that means that we'll be exploring Valentine's Day in relation to the God of the Bible. And, given Valentine's Day's theme, that means considering God's relationship to love.

So, what does the Bible say about God's relationship to love? The text that answers that question is 1 John 4:8, which tells us that God is love. Reader, think about what that means! If you want to know the true and full definition of love, look at the God of the Bible! In that God, and that God only, you will find True Love shine forth in all its glory! Remember all this when, Lord willing, the next Valentine's Day comes or any time when you're thinking about love!

And how can you have a relationship with the One who is Love? First, put aside ALL the beliefs about love that you currently hold! Second, remember that God is the Standard of love! Third, study the Bible to learn the character of God, believing and trusting all He reveals Himself to be, and that all these characteristics are characteristics of Love! Fourth, by the faith you'll develop from learning who Love is, live your life by the Word of the One who is Love, knowing that His words are Love's words!
