Romantic comedy is a "genre of comedy [that] combines themes of romantic love with humor" [1].

So, how may Christians utilize romantic comedy to glorify God?

Interestingly, we have an instance of romantic comedy in Scripture itself, which instance can serve as an example for Christians using romantic comedy to praise God. In Genesis 21:1-7, we see God causing Sarah to birth Isaac unto Abraham. "Isaac" means "laughter" [2], and, in verse 6, Sarah says that God made her laugh so that all who hear her story will laugh with her. Immediately after, in verse 7, Sarah asks who would have told her husband that she would have "given children suck" (KJV), because she bore Abraham a son in his old age. So, in this Biblical instance of romantic comedy, we see Sarah laughing at herself, a woman who was barren (Genesis 11:30), bearing a son to Abraham when he is old, an event that DOES NOT happen in the way God ordinarily runs the universe. So, a distinctive theme of Christian comedy is God overcoming ordinary and human expectations. And this comedy is romantic because it occurs in the context of a marriage (and a real-life marriage at that), and, further, in the context of the marital issue of childbearing.

May God make this post serve as a blueprint for Christian romantic comedy!
