Proverbs 10:24 says: "The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted." So, what does this say about the Lord Jesus Christ?

The first clause says that the wicked man's fear will come on him. To understand this clause rightly, however, we must briefly consider the second clause. Christ is the Righteous (1 John 2:1). Wickedness is the opposite of righteousness (Ezekiel 33:12). So, the "wicked" is a synonymous term for the "christless." And the christless are those without Christ, because of their lack of trust in Him. So, to say that the fear of the wicked will come upon him is to say that the fear of the christless man will come on him. In other words, what the christless man worries will happen to him, it will happen to him, as a wage of his sin, or disobedience of Christ (1 John 3:4).

The second clause says that the righteous's desire will be granted. Given how we previously established that Christ is the Righteous, to say that the desire of the righteous will be granted to him is to say that Christ's desire shall not be denied to Him. While that is the primary and ultimate fulfillment of this proverb, it is not the only one. No, this blessing of Christ is showered upon all those who are in Him by trust in Him! Those who trust in Christ (to the exclusion of all created things) are made "righteous," both by imputation and heart-transformation, and their desire will be granted. And we know that THE desire of the righteous is God, the God of the Bible, Himself (Psalm 73:25). Indeed, the Holy Spirit tells us in Psalm 84:11 that God will withhold NO good thing from those who walk uprightly. And God the Son tells us that none is good except God (Luke 18:19). So, God will not withhold Himself from those who, by trust in Him, genuinely desire Him (for Himself, not for His blessings separated from Himself)!

Reader, do you trust in the God of the Bible only? And is that trust producing in you a supreme desire for Him? Then that is a mark of the Holy Spirit's work in you! But if that's not true of you, then I IMPLORE you to repent! Turn away from all else, stop trusting in anything else, and put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ only (along with the Father and the Holy Spirit)! Trust Christ to make you right before God the Father by being your Propitiation and your Righteousness! Trust the Messiah also to conform your heart to His! While that conforming and transforming work will not be complete until you are in the Lord's presence, you WILL be freed from sin's domination over your heart (Romans 6:14)!
