The seventieth occurrence of “belief” in John’s Gospel is John 12:37. The text says: “But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him” (KJV). Now, what is the context here, and, also, what are some truths about faith here?
First, what is the context? Right after Jesus tells the people to believe in the light, while they have the light, so they may be children of light, and departs and hides from them, the Holy Spirit tells us, via the text, that, even though He performed so many miracles before them, they did not believe on Him. This is the context of John 12:37!
Second, what are some truths about faith? It’s another one of those times where I can only think of one fact concerning this passage. And that fact is this, one which we have covered before but may bear repeating: miracles, even an abundance of miracles, isn’t what causes people to trust in Christ. This is a fact about faith from John 12:37!
