What does Psalm 2 teach about the character of God? To answer that question, we must read the psalm and note what it clearly says about who God is and what He does.
So, first, read Psalm 2!
Second, what does the psalm say about who God is and what He does? One, God is the One whom the nations and peoples of this sinful and cursed world are at fierce enmity with, including their kings and rulers (1-3). Two, God has an Anointed One ("Anointed One" being the literal meaning of the synonymous titles "Messiah" and "Christ"), whom the nations and their rulers conspire against too. Three, God mocks and derides those who rebel against Him (4). Four, God is wrathful toward those who oppose Him (5). Five, God has a King, whom He has set on Zion, His holy hill (6). Six, God has begotten a Son (7). Seven, God will give His Son the nations for His inheritance and the ends of the earth for His possession, and His Son will break them with a rod of iron and dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel (8-9). Eight, God and His Son are the Persons to whom the kings and judges of the earth are to be subject to (10-12). Nine, God blesses all those who trust in His Son (who we know, from the rest of Scripture, is also God-Revelation 2:18, 26-27; cf. John 1:1-18, 5:17-18).
These are some characteristics of God we see in Psalm 2!
