One paper that God has used, in His providence, to teach me how the imagination can be a tool for spiritual edification is "The Puritan Use of Imagination" by Eifion Evans [1]. In that article, I learned how the Puritans used various things in creation to illustrate spiritual truths. While only God and His Word are infallible and inerrant, the Puritans did have Biblical things to say, which should be embraced because they accord with Scripture. And their counsel on using ordinary realities to illustrate spiritual realities is one of those things.
And this leads us to the theme of our new series on this blog! I plan on using politics, and many aspects of politics, as illustrations of the relationship believers have to Christ, their King. Because, for those of us who are tempted to have our hearts engrossed in politics, I think a great antidote is to use that passion to love and promote God's Kingdom (Matthew 6:33)!
Two notes though to sweep away two potential misunderstandings: 1) by "politics," I mean governance and all things pertaining to governance, not "politics" in its negative connotative sense; 2) NONE of what I will say in this series will be an endorsement of ANY worldly political figure, party, ideology, etc., but, again, will ONLY make politics and its aspects illustrations with which we fuel our devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Kingdom!
So, let's do this!!!
