For my readers who may not know, "presuppositionalism" is a way of doing apologetics where you presuppose that the Bible is the Word of God, and therefore the sole Authority. I embrace this apologetic methodology, and God has used it to free me from the false claims of objectivity made by proponents of atheism and secular worldviews. Really, God can use it to set one free from the deception of any unbiblical worldview, but atheistic and secular ones are notorious in the current time for boasting of their non-existent objectivity.
Lately though, I realized that the Biblical principle behind presuppositionalism, simply taking God at His Word [1], is vital for another area: assurance of salvation. Only God, the all-knowing One (John 16:30), can give a soul assurance of salvation. That is, only God can give a person absolute certainty that he has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ savingly. So, if one wants to ask the question "How can I know my faith, or belief, in Christ is saving faith?", he must realize 1) the Holy Spirit witnesses alongside the Christian's spirit that he is a child of God (Romans 8:16) and 2) the Holy Spirit speaks through the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:21). Therefore, he must go to God's Word, ask him this question, and see how the Word specifically answers those questions. Indeed, 1 John was written for that very purpose (1 John 5:13)!
NOTE: I want to acknowledge that God has used many teachers to teach me these truths. The reason I won't mention specific names here is because I can't endorse all their teachings.
