The Hypocrisy of Many Leftist Ex-Christians

Lately, my interest has turned to refuting arguments and emotional appeals made by ex-Christians. So, I think I'll be doing posts responding to content they put out. So, I think I'll start off with this post, though, here, I won't be responding to a content piece by an ex-Christian but to a sentiment that's common among many ex-Christians. Also, as this post's title implies, I'll be addressing leftist ex-Christians specifically. I'm sure there are rightist ex-Christians as well, and my goal isn't to criticize left-wing ex-Christians while going easy on or ignoring right-wing ones. Rather, there's a criticism (actually, a valid criticism) that many leftists have toward a specific camp that opposes them, and this criticism doesn't really come up (in my opinion) on the right toward their opponents (or, at least, not nearly as much-again, in my opinion), and that argument will play an important role in this post. Anyway, let's see the beef (I really hope readers get that reference, lol!)!

There's a whole camp of people who have "left the left." Many say that the reason (or, at least, A reason) for them leaving the left is that other leftists treated them horribly. In response, current leftists will tell them, essentially, "It's terrible that you were treated like that, and you have my full sympathy! But that's not a good reason to abandon left-wing political positions. If you consider what the actual positions that make someone left-wing are, you'll see that the bad treatment you received not only has nothing to do with left-wing beliefs, but left-wing beliefs actually condemn the way you were treated and even have the solution for the harm you suffered." That's essentially how a left-wing person would try to make their case, and you know what: they would be completely right in telling former leftists that they're wrong for abandoning an ideology because of the way they were treated by the ideology's adherents if that treatment isn't prescribed by (or, stronger yet, if it's condemned and redressed by) the ideology's actual teaching. Just to be clear: I am not a leftist myself. I'm simply trying to represent left-wing people fairly.

Now, to you left-wing ex-Christians who understand this when it comes to ex-leftists: why don't you apply that same standard when it comes to arguments that Christianity is false and/or immoral based off bad treatment you've received from Christians? Especially given the fact that, in many cases, you yourselves acknowledge that the bad treatment you've received and/or seen others receive is hypocritical by Biblical ethical standards? If you want to argue that Biblical ethics themselves are immoral, that's a different discussion, and I plan on making my next post a response to an ex-Christian short video that makes that argument. But why (if this is true in your individual cases, of course) do you think "I left Christianity because Christians are hypocrites" is valid reasoning? I know I'm being analytical here, but I'm writing this as an argument, not as counseling. My tone would be completely different if I was talking to someone who is suffering from trauma because of abuse they suffered. I want to be ABSOLUTELY clear on that point! Rather, I'm addressing bad-faith actors who think that an argument (or, at least, an emotional appeal) that they themselves recognize is irrational and are tired of hearing of from their opponents is completely valid to use as a pretext for rejecting Christianity as false and/or immoral. The truth and morality of leftist ideology rests on the content of leftist beliefs, not the behavior of leftists regardless of whether or not that behavior aligns with leftist values or not. The same is true with Christianity. And if you object to Christianity on the basis of the Bible's actual doctrine, you're still wrong and Christians will argue for why you're wrong. But at least, if you do that, you'd be more honest than you would be if you argued that you reject Jesus because of the disobedience of His followers.

If you're not a Christian, or if you're an ex-Christian, I hope this post will serve you well by God using it to show you the truth, goodness, and beauty of Jesus Christ as He is revealed in the Bible! If you want to learn more about that, let me know in the comments! If you're a believer and follower of Christ, I pray this will serve you well by showing why you shouldn't be intimidated by fallacious arguments or fallacious emotional appeals!
