"The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it." This popular saying illustrates the Bible's absolute authority and the Christian's attitude toward that authority.

However, I would modify it to "The Bible says it, that settles it, I believe it." I would change it so because my belief in what the Bible says doesn't settle what it says. Rather, the Bible speaks on a matter, and that settles the matter. I believe that, but my belief doesn't make that true. [1]

Often, this simple faith is mocked. Not only is it mocked by the unbelieving world, which we would expect (John 15:19), but it is even ridiculed by some "Christians."

This controversy raises the question: "Why have such trust in the Bible?" The answer is that the Bible is God's Word in written form. And what does God's Word do? It created all things (Genesis ch. 1; John 1:1-3). It also upholds all things (Hebrews 1:1-3). In other words, God's Word made and sustains reality. It determines reality. That's why the Bible is worthy of our trust. [2]

[1] I don't know if I heard these insights in this paragraph from another source or not, but, just in case I did, this is my shout-out to that source.

[2] Same thing in Reference 1.
