In this article, I want to address fellow believers in Christ who face a fear that I find myself having to fight by faith. That fear is this: I won't accomplish much for Christ. I want to fight this fear, both for myself and my family in Christ, by laying out some Biblical truths here.
1) God controls everything (Ephesians 1:11).
2) God withholds NOTHING that's good from those who live rightly in His eyes (Psalm 84:11). Here, a caution must be given! This DOESN'T mean that the believer's living according to God's commands is what puts him in a right relationship with God (Titus 3:5)! Rather, right living is faith manifesting itself, that it is genuine and not counterfeit (Galatians 5:6).
3) God didn't spare giving His own Son for those who trust in His Son, so He'll, with His Son, freely give us "all things" (Romans 8:32). This DOESN'T mean that God will make us wealthy, because God promises to supply all our "needs" (Matthew 6:24-34; compare with Philippians 4:19).
4) God says that He ordained, in eternity past, that those who trust in His Son should walk in good works (Ephesians 2:8-10).
In conclusion, I want to give a warning, then an exhortation that follows on the heals of that warning. These Biblical truths DON'T mean that we aren't to do anything (James 1:22)! Rather, they encourage us with the fact that God is with us if, by faith in His Son, we work to obey His commands in His Word. Now, go out and work good works for God's glory (and not your own honor), because GOD is the One working in you (Philippians 2:12-13)!
