Christ is the Wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24, 30). The Holy Spirit, through Solomon, says that the Proverbs are "to know wisdom" (Proverbs 1:1-2). If, therefore, Christ is Wisdom, and if the Proverbs are written so that we may know wisdom, the logical conclusion is that the Proverbs are written so that we know Christ. In other words, each proverb is a picture of Christ.

One of these pictures is Proverbs 22:29, which says: "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men" (KJV). To produce or grow faith in Christ in my readers, I will flesh out from the Gospels how Christ fulfills this proverb. In Luke 2:49, Christ says that He had to be about His Father's (i.e. God the Father's) business. It was His Father's business, yet He had to be the One attending to it. So, God the Father's business is Christ's business. This work is the "business" we see in Proverbs 22:29. Now that we know what Christ's business is, what do we see about Christ's diligence in His business? John 4:34 says that doing the Father's will and completing the Father's work is Christ's very food. So devoted to the Father's work was the Son that the Son saw His Father's will as His very meat. Truly, Christ is a Man (for He is God in human flesh-John 1:1-14) who was diligent in His business. And did Christ stand before kings? Why, Christ ascended to His Father (John 20:17), who is the Lord of Heaven and Earth (Matthew 11:25), and received a Kingdom from Him (Daniel 7:13-14). As humiliated as Christ was in His earthly life, He did not stand before lowly men in the end[1]. No, He stood (and still stands) before the King of the whole universe.

Christian, by faith in Christ, follow your Example!

Nonbeliever in Christ, turn away from all else and trust Christ only, loving and following Him by that faith!
