Christ's enemies often attack Christianity by arguing that it is wrong (morally, and perhaps intellectually) because of the evils of Christians. And I'm NOT talking about things that are falsely labeled evil, such as criticism of homosexuality, criticism of transgenderism, criticism of abortion, affirmation of Christ as the only Way to the Father, affirmation of Christianity as the only true religion, affirmation of the Bible as the only intellectual and moral Authority, etc. No, I'm talking about things that are TRULY evil (i.e. things that God condemns in His Word).

When Christians hear these arguments, we often fall back on various responses. I think the response we fall back on the most is "Well, that person wasn't a true Christian!" Now, that's not to say that response is false in all situations it's used. However, we can't read a professing Christian's heart to see if their sin(s) are temporary or permanent turns away from Christ.

So, I'm convinced we need a better response. And in this article, I want to suggest that better response. We need to point out, from God's Word, how these arguments are fallacious because they aren't criticisms of Christian actions. What do I mean? The point of these arguments is to prove that Christianity is immoral (and perhaps false too) because of the sins of Christians. However, there's at least one false assumption in them, whenever they're employing them. That false assumption is this: that Christian deeds are deeds that Christians do. No! Christian morality is NOT the morality of Christian individuals (whether genuine or nominal). Christian morality is Christ's moral teaching. And, because 1) Christ is God the Son in human flesh (minus sin) and 2) the Bible (i.e. the 66 Books of the Old and New Testaments) is God's Word in written form, Christ's moral teaching is defined by Scripture. So, a far better (as well as more effective) response would be to demonstrate, from the Bible, that Christians' sins are actually violations of Christ's moral teaching.
