John 11:27 is where the sixty-third occurrence of "believing" in the Gospel of John is found. The text reads: "She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world" (KJV). Now, what is the context of this passage, and what are some facts about faith we can glean from it?

First, what is the context? Right after Jesus tells Martha that whoever lives and believes in Him will not die, as well as asking her if she believes this, Martha answers that, yes, she believes that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world. This is the context of John 11:27!

Second, what are some facts about faith here? First, we see, again, that, just like John 20:30-31 tells us, the content of saving faith is Jesus being the Messiah, God's Son, part of which means that He is the One who came into the world, being sent by God the Father (John 6:29). Second, we see that believing Jesus to be the Messiah and Son of God includes believing that He is the Resurrection and the Life. Because, right after Christ declares Himself to be the Resurrection and the Life, and that whoever lives and believes in Him will never die (before asking Martha if she believes this), she responds by saying that she believes Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Third, we can infer that believing Jesus to be the Messiah and Son of God includes believing the theological truth that whoever lives and believes in Him will never die. Because, when Christ asks Martha if she believes this theological truth, her response is that she believes Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. My apology for how similar these insights sounded; I tried to cover different things in the text. Anyway, these are some facts about faith from John 11:27!
