The sixty-first and sixty-second usages of "believing" in John's Gospel are in John 11:26. There, the Lord Jesus Christ says: "And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" (KJV). So, as usual, what is the context, and what are some truths about faith here?
First, the context. Right after Jesus declares to Martha that He is the Resurrection and the Life and that the one who believes in Him, though he is dead, will live, He further explains that whoever lives and believes in Him will never die. Then, He asks Martha if she believes this. This is the context of John 11:26!
Second, the truths about faith. First, we see that if one wants to be saved, he must believe in Jesus NOW, while he still lives this current life. Because Jesus says that it is the one who LIVES and believes in Him who will never die. Second, belief in Jesus Christ GUARANTEES safety from eternal death. "Eternal death," because the Lord just told Martha in the previous verse that the believer physically dies. Third, faith in Christ includes believing the fact that whoever lives and believes in Jesus will never die. Because, right after Jesus confesses this very fact, He asks Martha if she believes this fact. These are some facts about faith from John 11:26!
