The Holy Spirit, in teaching Christians about their life in Christ, uses athletic imagery (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). So, I want to do the same in this post, using basketball metaphors to illustrate the Christian life.
Signing up is conversion to Christ.
The player is the Christian.
The Christian's team is all Christians.
The other team is all sins.
The other team's coach is Satan.
The Christian's training is conformation to Christ.
The game is the Christian life.
The Christian's coach is Christ.
The Christian's coach's instructions are God's Word.
The Christian's points are his obediences to God's Word.
The other team's points are disobediences to God's Word.
Dropping out of Christ's team is apostasy.
Dropping out of Satan's team is repentance.
The end is Christ's return.
The Christian's victory is life in Christ's presence.
The sinner's loss is eternal punishment.
