How To Be Sure That Jesus Knows You

One of the most convicting and terrifying passages of Scripture is Matthew 7:21-23. Here, Jesus says that not everyone who calls Him Lord will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but that only those who do the will of His Heavenly Father will enter the Kingdom. He goes on to say that many will, while addressing Him as Lord, ask Him if they did not do many miraculous and wondrous works in His Name. But, rather than letting them in, He will confess to them that He never knew them and tell them to depart from Him, calling them workers of lawlessness. Jesus Christ Himself says here that many think of themselves as Christians whom He Himself will turn away from the Kingdom, instead sentencing them to eternal punishment.

The importance of this question to you, reader, if you think of yourself as a follower of Jesus, is obvious: how do you know you're not one of those confident you'll enter Heaven who will instead go to Hell? After all, part of being deceived is not knowing you are, in reality, deceived. So, again, how can you know? Well, the Lord here characterizes these false believers as those whom He "never knew." The converse is clear: those whom Jesus knows, He grants entrance into His Kingdom. So, in order to truly know that you are known by Christ, you have to know what He says is true of those whom He knows and see if you yourself match that characterization! And, while God's Word gives multiple marks of the truly godly, I want to focus on one text in particular: Nahum 1:7. The text says: "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him" (KJV). Here, the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 2 Peter 1:16-21) tells us that God (Jesus Christ Himself being God-John 1:1-18) knows those who "trust in Him." So, do you put your trust in Jesus Christ, as the Gospel of His accomplished and perfect work of salvation reveals Him (Romans 1:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)? If yes, you are known by Him, and you can be CERTAIN He'll let you into His Kingdom on that day! If not, He does NOT know you and WILL tell you to depart into never-ending destruction! But, if you repent and put your trust in Him instead of whoever or whatever you are currently trusting in, He WILL know you and grant you entrance into Heaven to be with Him for all eternity! Do so right now if He is not the ONLY One you are trusting in!
