A Congregational Prayer

Father:

We come here today to sing to you, pray to you, and to hear your Word, so that we may believe, love, and do your Word. God, lately, you've been impressing two truths about yourself on my heart, and maybe you've been doing the same for other believers in this room and other Christians who are watching or listening to this service through other means. First, you've been showing me how stability really is in you only. Even created things that we naturally think and feel are stable are only so because you sustain them. Indeed, all you have to do is to withdraw your hand and we would quickly learn how unstable all other things truly and intrinsically are. Another fact you've been opening my eyes to is not to be fall for the world's false standards of what is realistic. I think many of us at times (and I know this has been true of me at times) see what you, in your Word, call us to do, and we're tempted, because we imbibe this world's standards of what is realistic and unrealistic, to explain it away and rationalize it away because it sounds impossible to us. But, as your Son says, what is impossible with us IS possible with you. First of all, because you yourself are the Standard of reality and truth, being the Creator, Sustainer, Controller, and Lord of all things. Second, because you promise us the power to do all that you command us in your Word to do. And, being the Omnipotent One, you have an infinite store of power from which to grant your people all the strength we need. Father, as individuals and as a body, we lift up to you all our hearts' desires and requests. We implore you to shape our hearts according to your will, as well as our prayers, and ask that, once you do so, that you will graciously grant us our requests! For your Spirit tells us, in 1 John 5:14-15, if we ask anything according to your will, you hear us, and, if we know that you hear us, we know that we have the petitions we ask of you, whatever we ask.

It's in your Son's glorious name that we both thank you and pray... Amen!
